Profile

Culcheth High

is a highly successful and over-subscribed community school in the heart of semi-rural Warrington. We are recognised as “a good school” by OFSTED with many outstanding features. As a high performing school over a number of years we genuinely strive to become the ‘best that we can be’ in all aspects of our work for young people and the community.

The school is committed to exacting high standards, to expecting excellence from all and to developing outstanding learning with staff and students. We are an ambitious and forward thinking institution where students’ success lies at the heart of everything we do. Culcheth High enjoys an enviable reputation for being a warm and welcoming school where genuinely every person matters.

We seek to be ambitious and to be bold for students’ futures. Seeing the rich potential in every young person and encouraging exceptional progress is at the centre of our approach. Recognising and developing students’ personal strengths and skills is very important to us – the quality of our pastoral care is extremely high. As a strongly inclusive school it is our belief that aspiration is for all.

We relish the opportunity and responsibility for driving student success forwards and we are very proud of all our young people’s achievements – attainment and progress at Culcheth are consistently much higher than that found in most schools nationally. This is testament to our core philosophy of ‘Learning for Life’ as a school deeply rooted in its community.

We are a popular, successful and oversubscribed 11 – 18 school, with just under 1200 students. Our mantra is “Learning for Life”. In short, we aim to get the best out of all our students. As a school, we believe firmly in the best traditional values. We expect students to behave well, to dress smartly in uniform and to aim highly in all aspects of their education. We want them to enjoy school, to be successful, to benefit from the wide range of extra-curricular activities we offer and leave as a responsible citizen, fully prepared for life in the world outside.

We are proud of our strong record of academic success, record exam results at GCSE in 2013 are well above both local and national averages. In 2013, all A level students who applied were successful in securing a university place. We support fully students who are ‘high fliers’ and benefit from academic challenge; we are also proud of the work we do with students with specific needs. The quality of our teachers was recognised by OFSTED on their last visit to the school who said that we provide “a good education” and that “students achieve well”.

Underpinning our success is our pastoral care. All children are supported by a form-tutor and a Student Achievement Co-ordinator who know them well and support their achievements. We believe good relationships with parents are crucial to the success of a child; we welcome all their contributions and interest.

Our students enjoy the benefits of a £29m school building, opened in July 2010. We work in a fully modernised educational setting – new classrooms, the best in Technology, purpose built Drama studios, Science Labs, Music Suite, Independent Learning Centre and a full range of other fantastic facilities which are, through the services of ‘Livewire’, available to the community outside school hours. The sweeping views of the Lancashire hills add a dramatic element to the landscape.
