The West Highlander rail journey

Travelled from Preston to Fort William last October, was a long journey (6am start) but was a treat for my mother. Had about an hour or so in Fort William for lunch. The train was clean and well presented and the volunteer staff on board were very polite and attentive to our needs. The ticket cost was comparable to a normal fare, but with herritage coaches made it worth while. The buffet prices were reasonable but I didn't use it as the trolley came down about every hour with tea and coffee. I would do this again

“Great experience sitting back and enjoying the fantastic scenery.”

I booked my mother and myself on the compass tours autumn highlander weekend as a birthday treat, and what a treat it was! The beautiful hotel was just a stones throw from the station and provided a perfect breakfast ready for the big day ahead. We thoroughly enjoyed sitting back in comfort and taking in the breath taking views of the highlands. We opted for 1st class without dining, but we were able to take as much food and drink as we liked on board. There was also a buffet serving plenty of sandwiches and snacks and a regular trolley service for tea and coffee. We enjoyed this trip so much that we have booked again on the Cumbrian moorlander in March but this time with dining. There are plenty of friendly and helpful staff on board the train creating a very welcoming and fun atmosphere thoughout the entire weekend. Very much looking forward to travelling with compass tours again!

“The Lochalsh Highlander"

We had the most wonderful outing to Kyle of Lochalsh yesterday with Compass Tours by rail. Starting at 7.05 in Stirling we returned at 23.05 and all this time we were catered for by staff who could not do enough to make our journey pleasurable. We paid for 1st class and we certainly would suggest doing this as the staff were so very attentive and drinks and food regularly brought to our seats to purchase. my husband is in a wheelchair and has limited walking ability and everything possible was done to help us enjoy our trip. Great train journey with lovely people joining us and we all thought this company class A.

“Blackburn to Carlisle Circular”

We boarded at Blackburn, in First Class, and were soon seated comfortably. What we liked most about this trip was the extremely friendly atmosphere. Fellow travellers and all the staff were happy, friendly and good fun. The trolley service was good and brought good humour with it, The timings were spot on and the journey around the Cumbrian Coast was very picturesque. We did not have long in Carlisle before returning via The Settle Carlisle Line but we knew that in advance and planned accordingly. The scenery on the return journey was stunning. We had a wonderful day out and can find no fault with any aspect of our trip. Nanny and Col.
